ABSTRACT

The decline in biodiversity is now indisputable, just as the range of human activities impacting individual species continues to grow more complex. In this study, I explore human interactions with wild, protected species, with a dual focus on domestic legal practice and international scholarly literature. First, I provide a theoretical overview and key characteristics of commercial activities involving wild specimens. I then analyse domestic law enforcement practices by examining the case files of criminal proceedings concluded with final judgments in Csongrád-Csanád County between 2009 and 2018. Finally, I present a case study of a wildlife trade operation which seems to exhibit characteristics of international organisation. I will conclude with a summary of the key insights gained during the research.
